Norman, OK - William "Bill" Elgin Garrett Jr., 87, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Born January 7, 1939, in Little Rock to William E. Garrett Sr. and Margaret Garrett, Bill lived a life defined by faith, family, service, and craftsmanship.


Bill proudly served in the Arkansas National Guard during the integration of Little Rock Central High School in 1957. He later worked for the United States Postal Service as an electronic technician and instructor, teaching advanced mail-sorting systems in Norman until his retirement in 1992.


On October 20, 1961, he married the love of his life, Jenna. Together they shared 61 years of marriage before her passing in 2023. Bill was a gifted craftsman, pilot, woodworker, musician, and self-taught luthier who handcrafted violins, dulcimers, and mandolins for his family to enjoy for generations.


He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jenna, two brothers, and other cherished family members.


Bill is survived by his children, Sharon Garrett; Karen Griffin and husband Sherman; and David Garrett and wife Cindy; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, sister, extended family, and many friends who will deeply miss him.
