Norman, Oklahoma - Valerie Twitchell Satterthwaite, 59, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 19, 2026. She was adored by all who knew her.

Born, August 4, 1966, in Ogden, Utah, Valerie was the cherished daughter of Afton and the late Rulon Twitchell.

Valerie's life was marked by a deep commitment to her family and faith. She shared a loving, celestial marriage with her husband, Shad Satterthwaite. Together, they built a life of service and devotion to each other, their family, and their community. Valerie valiantly supported Shad during two military deployments to Afghanistan and they both supported each other in their various church responsibilities during their 36 years of marriage.

Family was at the heart of Valerie's life. She was the loving mother of Megan (Shawn) Barber, Tanner (Hannah), and Pace (Janelly). Her role as grandmother to Colton, Ellie, Payson, and Eva Ann, brought her tremendous happiness. Valerie treasured every moment being with family which was her greatest source of fulfillment.

Valerie spent ten years as the Support Specialist at the Norman Institute of Religion adjacent to the University of Oklahoma campus and established wonderful, lasting friendships with the teachers and young adults.

She had tremendous talent in bringing beauty to this world through her artistic ability and creativity. Her love for painting was evident in her beautiful oil paintings of nature. She loved gardening and was able to make any flower or plant flourish in Oklahoma soil.

As a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she found joy and purpose in her service to God and others. The impact of her loving, selfless life will forever be treasured.

A funeral service will be held to honor Valerie's life on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 11am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1506 W. Imhoff Rd. Norman, OK 73072. All are invited to stay afterwards for a reception celebrating Valerie's legacy.
