Robert Norwill McIlroy
Robert (Bob) Norwill McIlroy, age 71, of Norman, passed away peacefully in his home on September 4th. He was born November 20th, 1947 in Philadelphia, PA, and spent his childhood in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He attended Cascia Hall Preparatory School, where he played baseball and excelled in academic studies. In alignment with his ardent love of words, he earned a degree in English Literature from the University of Oklahoma in 1969. After serving in the U.S Army at Fort Lewis in Seattle, WA, he returned to the University of Oklahoma and graduated from the College of Law in 1975, practicing as an attorney in Norman for the rest of his life. He was a loving father to twins, John Ross McIlroy and Emily Catherine McIlroy, born in 1983.

Bob had an insatiable appetite for all things philosophical and poetic, and devoted much time to the study of various spiritual texts and teachings. He took enormous joy in the realms of language and literature, and considered his favorite authors to be among his closest friends. He was known for his warm and sensitive heart, keen intellect, candor, generosity, wit, love of animals, and strong penchant for conversation.

He is survived by his daughter, Emily McIlroy (Honolulu, HI), brother, Arthur McIlroy (Tulsa, OK), niece Paige McIlroy Young (Austin, TX), nephew Sean McIlroy (Nashville, TN), many cousins, including Carol Coulter (Arlington, VA), Elizabeth Lara (New York, NY), Lynette Roth (Lone Wolf, CO), Tom Schmidt (Parker, CO), Jack McIlroy (Port Townsend, WA), Dick McIlroy (Driggs, Idaho), Ann Thompson (Carmel, IN), Joan Briggs (Lakewood Ranch, FL), and his beloved cat, Greyce Catherine. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Irene (née Norwill) McIlroy, his son, John Ross McIlroy, and cousin, Alice Coulter (Gainesville, VA).

A celebration of his life will be held at 5pm on September 21st in the courtyard of St. John's Episcopal Church in Norman.
