Norman, OK - Phillip Gregory Clour, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on April 29th, at the age of 79. Born on January 22, 1946, in Anadarko, Oklahoma, he was the beloved son of Doris Helen (Flessa) and Ezra Carl Clour.
Phil was a devoted Civil Engineer and Land Surveyor, dedicating over 40 years of his life to his profession. As the founder of his own company, he combined his passion for design with a commitment to serving his community. His expertise in land development helped shape Norman and neighboring towns, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape. Phil's meticulous attention to detail was evident in thoughtfully designed subdivisions, his collaborations with the City of Norman, and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
Beyond his professional life, Phil was a man of many passions. He was a die-hard Oklahoma Sooners fan, rarely missing a football game, and his love for fast cars, sci-fi movies, and spirited card games was well known among his friends and family. He was thrilled to take road trips with his dear friend, Rolf, which often led to savoring Eischen's renowned fried chicken. A true connoisseur of breakfast diners, Phil made a ritual of visiting his favorite local spots, nearly every day for the past several decades.
Phil attended Moore High School, where he met the love of his life, Sondra Kay Wingate. The two married shortly after graduation and embarked on a beautiful journey together that spanned over 59 years. Following high school, Phil answered the call of duty by enlisting in the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he pursued his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Oklahoma, further cementing his love for design and engineering.
Phil is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Doris Clour, and his brother Carl "Skipper" Clour.
He is survived by his cherished wife, Sondra; his brother, Michael Clour, and wife, Jana, and their son, Jonathan; his daughters, Shelby Prokop, Amber Clour, and Halee Dunaway; sons-in-law, Mark Prokop and Joseph Dunaway; and his three adored grandchildren, Boston Prokop, Greg Dunaway, and Connor Dunaway. Phil's memory will also be treasured by his extended family and many dear friends.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 3rd, at Moore First United Methodist Church. A viewing will take place at 1:00 p.m., followed by the funeral at 2:00 p.m., and a graveside service at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell immediately following. In honor of Phil—who never cared much for ties—we encourage you to dress comfortably.
We will continue celebrating his life later that evening at our family home.
