Mildred Irene Wilkerson Reedy Obituary

When a soul returns to God it is a moment of great awe. "Mema Reedy," a cherished and admired treasure, went to be with Jesus at age 96 on July 11, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

Mildred's celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 16th, at Thunderbird Chapel, 11395 E. State Hwy 9. Pastor Troy Wright will officiate, and interment will follow at Denver Memorial Cemetery, 701 108th Ave SE. Arrangements are being made by McMahan's Funeral Home in Noble, where the viewing will be held Friday, July 15th, from 5-7pm.

Mildred was born September 2, 1925 and grew up during the great depression. She was the 4th of 5 children born to Owen F. Wilkerson and Ollie F. Rollins Wilkerson. They homesteaded 340 acres now known as Lake Thunderbird. She attended Clearbrook school and befriended their neighbor, James Garner. Mildred graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1943. She was a scholar, athlete, and musician.

During WWII, she lived in Pasadena, CA and became an official "Rosie Riveter," building ramps for LCMs, radios, and rocket cylinders. She said they jitter-bugged in the streets the day the war ended.

She then returned to Norman for a two week visit that turned into 75 years. She met and married her sweetheart and sailor, Cloyce Reedy, at the Norman Train Depot where they have celebrated many happy anniversaries. She attended the University of Oklahoma and enjoyed a long career as a public accountant. Her father's FROG (Fred, Roy, Owen, and George) Band sang on WKY radio and while they brought great pleasure to Cleveland County, they also inspired her love of music. She sang in choir herself and always said her greatest investment was in piano lessons for her only child, Wanda Reedy Cook.

She and Cloyce loved to travel in their RV and visited every State Capitol, Canada, Mexico, & Europe.

A woman of faith in Jesus and a heart for service, she and Cloyce were both leaders at NW Baptist and Enterprise Baptist Church. She was also President of the American Legion Auxiliary, volunteered at Norman Regional Hospital, the Election Board, Meals on Wheels and donated cheerfully to many more charitable organizations. She loved OU football as well, but would even cheer for the Cowboys in all but Bedlam.

She possessed a clean, strong, feisty, courageous moral compass that was bound to the right way of living. She was uncommonly intentional with great intensity, consistency, and sparked a legacy through her quilt making, bird watching, recycling, crossword puzzle solving, bridge playing, designing, seamstressing, and her competitive, but sweet nature. She was deeply loved and admired by all who knew her. Mildred is survived by her daughter, Wanda Reedy Cook; grandchildren Kimberly Cook Grammer (Michael); Christopher Cook (Julie), great-grandchildren Chloe, Claire, Christian and Rebecca Grammer, Eva and Camille Cook, and her beloved cats Itty Bitty and Surrey Lee. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings.

The family would like to thank the staff at Integris Hospice and Allison for their excellent care and support. She and Cloyce were the gatekeepers for Denver Memorial Gardens Cemetery where she will rest in peace. John 14:27
