Mary Evelyn Miller Woodrow Obituary
Norman, OK - Mary Evelyn Miller Woodrow, age 96, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026. She was born on July 10, 1929, near Blanchard, Oklahoma, to Perry C. Miller and Katie Bell Harris Miller.
Mary graduated from Norman High School in 1947 and went on to attend Hills Business School in Oklahoma City. On October 1, 1948, she married the love of her life, Gilbert Ralph "G.R." Woodrow. Together they built a life rooted in love, family, and faith until his passing on August 20, 1972.
Throughout their early years, Mary and Gilbert made their home in Oklahoma City before moving to California, where they lived in Bakersfield, Stockton, and the Los Angeles area. In 1962, the family returned to Norman, Oklahoma, where Mary would spend the remainder of her life.
Mary found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved gospel music and barbershop harmony, especially four-part singing. Her many hobbies included board games, bowling, reading, sewing, painting, and writing. She was an active participant in lifelong learning, enjoying OLLI classes, lectures, and seminars at the University of Oklahoma, as well as cherished lunches with longtime friends.
A woman of strong faith, Mary was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Norman, where she volunteered at the Family Life Center. She was also involved in Galaxy of Writers in Norman, sharing her love of writing and creativity with others.
Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother who instilled in her family the values of honesty, integrity, responsibility, a strong work ethic, and love. She once said she wished to be remembered "as a good person. I tried my best at everything and my children prove that it worked." Her life stands as a testament to those words.
She is survived by her daughters: Linda Nicholson and her husband, Charlie; Debra Lynch and her husband, Ron; and Dona Jane McClure Robinson and her husband, Jim. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Torie Lynch, Veronica Lynch, Erin Houser, G.A. Butler, Maggie McClure Henry, and Joseph McClure; eight great-grandchildren: Hunter Johnson, Harrison Johnson, Evan Johnson, Marlow Stevenson, Hope Stevenson, Preston Kuznia, Ethan Butler, and Grayson Butler; and one great-great-grandchild, Lilian Johnson.
Mary's greatest joy was her family, and her love for them will live on through generations.
