Ms. Marilyn Sue Bourbeau Obituary

Norman, OK - Marilyn Sue Argo Bourbeau, born August 1, 1938, the only daughter of Clint and Mary Berglan Argo, returned to her eternal home on November 29, 2025, following a long and courageous battle with heart disease.

Known to friends and co-workers as "Marilyn" and to her family as "Sue," she lived her life with warmth, style, and grace. Her large, colorful glasses— or "spectacles," as she fondly called them, and her bright red lipstick were her trademarks. She was never without her lipstick. She loved with her whole heart, and everyone she loved, loved her just as deeply in return.

A 1957 graduate of Norman High School, Marilyn earned her Associate Degree in Secretarial Science from Hill's Business College in Oklahoma City. After graduation, she worked as a legal secretary at Reynolds & Foreman in Norman and later served in the same capacity for the City of Norman.

Although a secretary by trade, Marilyn also applied her talents in retail. Many, however, would say her greatest calling was as mother to her two daughters, Sharon and Karen; nana to her three grandchildren; and great-nana to eight.

Civically engaged, Marilyn spent many years active in the Norman Jaycee Jaynes and several chapters of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

After moving with her family to Miami Beach, Fla., in 1968, she became a stay-at-home mother and homemaker—a role in which she excelled. The family returned to Oklahoma in 1972 and lived in Waurika, Lindsay, Altus, and Shawnee, where Marilyn also worked part-time for several tax agencies during tax season. She and her daughter Sharon returned to Norman in 2005.

Marilyn later returned to full-time work as secretary to the dean of the Warren M. Angell College of Fine Arts at Oklahoma Baptist University. In that role, she became "mom" to hundreds of fine arts students. She continued part-time work at Dillard's, where she was known not only for her exceptional customer service but also for her impeccable taste and fashion sense.

After retiring from OBU in 2007, Marilyn worked part-time at Cato Fashions in Norman and later for the State of Oklahoma at Lake Thunderbird in the gift shop and selling parking and camping permits. She retired at age 83 and joyfully returned to the role of homemaker. More than anything, she loved cooking, gardening, and holding her beloved Maltese dogs.

Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Sharon Bourbeau of Norman and Karen Miller (John) of Kansas City, Missouri; her brothers Bud Argo (Jan) of Norman and Jim Argo (Melissa) of Oklahoma City; her grandchildren Jordan Nulton (Will) of Kansas City, Casey Miller (Whitney) of Kansas City, and Sam Miller of Phoenix, Arizona; and eight great-grandchildren: Danny, Mary Grace, Tommy, Katherine, and Molly Nulton; and Noah, Sutton, and Tate Miller; as well as numerous extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Don Edward Argo and Doyle W. Argo.

Celebration of Life services will take place at CrossPointe Church in Norman on Dec. 11 at 11 a.m. Arrangements are being handled by John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home & Chapel.
