Norman, Oklahoma - John Wallace Gipson, II (affectionately known as 'Pops') of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2025, with his family by his side. He was born October 8, 1945, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He attended Permian High School in Odessa, Texas and then Midwestern State University. He was a long-time, respected insurance agent in Norman, Oklahoma. John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Gipson; and sister, Helen Ann Lisle.

John was a loving husband to wife, Jody of 55 years. He was a devoted father to Amyee Knipping (Dan), Todd Gipson (Jennifer), and Heather Gipson. He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Caden, Kolby, Hunter, Tias, Gunnar, and Caroline; and his great-granddaughter, Kailani. John was also an amazing brother to Sharon Bishop (Gary), and uncle to several nieces and nephews. He was a father figure and mentor to so many and a wonderful, loyal friend to countless others.

John had a deep love for Christ. His infectious spirit, unwavering guidance, and never-ending humor brought joy to everyone around him. He dedicated his life to creating a loving and supportive home. John's stories, advice and warm hugs will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.

Pops loved to watch his grandchildren's sporting events and activities. He enjoyed telling stories and showing off his "dad" dance moves. The Oklahoma Sooners and the Oklahoma City Thunder were his absolute favorites. John had the opportunity to mentor and coach many young athletes. Some of his favorite memories came from his time helping coach The Slammers. He loved golf, and he always thought he should have been a NASCAR driver or a professional fisherman! However, his love and support for his family was his greatest purpose.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-700 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the funeral home.
