Edward Lawn Porter IV ("Lawnie") Obituary

Norman, OK - Edward Lawn "Lawnie" Porter IV was born on September 2, 1943, in Oklahoma City to Edward L. "Bud" Porter III and Phyllis Marie Golding Porter. He passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025, in Norman, Oklahoma, at the age of 81.

A proud Midwest City Bomber, Lawnie attended Central State College (now the University of Central Oklahoma) after high school. He married his high school sweetheart, Judy Sue Holder, at "the Porter House" on Porter Lane—a home he built with his father and brothers. Together, the Porter family became known for their building projects, from homes and cabins to a shopping center that included the "Handy Dandy," a dry cleaners, and a barber shop.

Lawnie and Judy were blessed with four children and built their own home in Witcher, near Edmond. He founded a successful construction company specializing in commercial and residential building and remodeling, earning a sterling reputation built on honesty, craftsmanship, and integrity. He also served as vice president of TP Machine & Tool Company, Inc., where he enjoyed the operational side of the business.

A quiet, thoughtful man, Lawnie was an avid reader and philosopher at heart. He loved nature, travel, and history—especially his visits to Oxford, England—but his favorite place was home by the fireplace, cheering for OU football or watching "doggie" movies, westerns, woodworking shows, and "The Great British Bake-Off."

Known as "Poppi" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Lawnie's eyes would light up whenever they visited. He was proud of their accomplishments and delighted in their company, always encouraging them to "keep a journal—the story of your life—to pass on to the next generation."

Lawnie was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brother, Billy Dale Porter; daughter, Tiffany Porter Bishop (2019); son, Todd Paul Porter (2024); in-laws, Gladys Rose and Paul Holder; brother-in-law, Tom A. Holder; and nephew, Steve Lofton.

He is survived by his beloved wife Judy Sue; daughter Tami Hogan (Patrick); son Darren Porter (Sandy); sister Jan Robinson (Lonnie); sister-in-law Paula Jo Kelly; aunt Eileen Hanlan; grandchildren Dustin "Dr." Porter (Ciji), Sarah Rose Porter (Mauricio Mexicano), Joshua Porter (Ariel Ray), Bunni Bishop, Jonathan Porter (Michelle), and Gigi Rose Hogan; and great-grandchildren Cambrya and Declan Porter, and Gianna Mexicano. He also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Special thanks to Dr. Jonathan Bryon, Dr. Dotani, and all the caregivers who provided such compassionate care throughout the years.

A memorial celebration will be held at the Holy City Chapel in Medicine Park, Oklahoma, on November 8, 2025.

His wish was to be "Home on the Range, where the buffalo roam."
