Dave Stockwell Obituary

Norman, OK - David "Dave" Stockwell, 69, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away on May 18, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was born on June 3, 1956, in Oklahoma City to Benjamin "Ben" Eugene Stockwell and Marjorie "Marge" Ribble Stockwell.

In 1960, Dave's family moved to Norman, where he spent the remainder of his life building lasting friendships, serving his community, and raising the family he loved so deeply. He graduated from Norman High School in 1974 and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1979. He later attended the University of Oklahoma College of Law, graduating in 1989 and proudly passing the Oklahoma Bar.

Dave began his career as an Agent for the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, a profession he considered his first and longest love. His dedication to law enforcement and justice remained with him throughout his life. He later became a highly respected attorney who helped countless individuals through difficult seasons of life with wisdom, compassion, and integrity. Dave served as Past President of the Cleveland County Bar Association and was the Chair and co-creator of the Cleveland County Community Sentencing Program and the Cleveland County Drug/Treatment Court. He was also a proud member of the Oklahoma Bar Association, the Cleveland, Oklahoma and McClain County Bar Associations, as well as the Choctaw and Chickasaw Bar Associations.

Dave was known not only for his professional accomplishments, but also for the way he cared for others. He loved to cook and was especially proud of his beef jerky and smoked foods, often giving meals away because feeding people was his love language. He loved fishing, spending time with family and friends, and enjoying the music of the 1970s — firmly believing that, aside from Toby Keith and maybe Kenny Chesney, little good music came after that era. Kenny Loggins, Christopher Cross, James Taylor, and Fleetwood Mac were among his favorites.

Dave lived by lessons that those closest to him will never forget: "Do the right thing for the right reason," "Isn't fun the best thing to have," "Always plan 3 days ahead," and "It's what you do when you do what we do." Above all else, Dave loved deeply — his family, his friends, his work, and the people who were fortunate enough to know him.

He is survived by his wife, Lori Walkley of Norman; 2 daughters, Mackenzie Stockwell Dennis and husband Ryan Dennis of Oklahoma City, Madison Stockwell Clark and husband John Clark of Oklahoma City; 3 daughters by choice, Lyndsey Craig and husband Jeff Craig of Arvada, Colorado, Faith Shelton and husband Trey Shelton of Oklahoma City, and Madelyn Kemmet and husband Bo Kemmet of Norman; sister, Peggy Stockwell and husband Richard Stevens of Norman; grandchildren, Weston Dennis, Jack Dennis, Berkley Clark, Crew Clark, Hunter Kemmet, and Margot Shelton; niece, Elizabeth Stevens; nephew, Michael Stevens; and beloved fur baby, Sydney Ellen Wade.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben Stockwell and Marge Stockwell; his wife, Marcie Henry Stockwell; and his father and mother-in-law, T.J. and Pat Henry.

Dave's legacy of service, loyalty, generosity, humor, and unwavering love for his family and community will continue to live on in all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Meals on Wheels of Norman, a charity close to Dave's heart.

Services will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 10 a.m. with burial following services at Norman IOOF/St. Joseph's Cemetery.
