Charles Harrison "C.H." Martin, 93, of Noble, was born May 22, 1921, in Noble, the first of seven born to Albert Ross and Ottie Inez Davis Martin. He departed this life Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, in Norman. Charles started driving a bus for the Norman City Bus Lines in 1943 and was the first to drive a bus on the streets of Norman. He also drove for the OU campus and transported football teams and students to their destinations. He then worked for Humpty Dumpty Grocery and Wonder Bread in Oklahoma City before moving to California in 1951, where he drove a bus and later a truck for Wonder Bread/Continental Baking Company. He later drove a truck for Lucky Stores, retiring in 1986. He later drove a truck for Lucky Stores, retiring in 1986. After his retirement, he became a handyman in his neighborhood. If anyone needed anything done, from concrete work to installing skylights, they called on "Charlie." Charles was a man of many talents and always took pride in his work. He could build a house all by himself, from start to finish. He could take a car apart and put it back together. He was a great mechanic and craftsman. He always said that his hobby was working. He was especially proud when he was chosen to be an extra in the movie "Seabiscuit." He lived in California until his second wife passed away in 2005, when he decided to move back to Noble. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Charles and Bob Martin; two brothers, Albert JR and Chester Martin; three sisters, Ardis Meredith, Louise Norvell and June Martin; and three wives, Ethel Green (the mother of his children), Margie Clark and Evelyn Cline Winn. Charles is survived by one daughter, Ovetta Woznicki of Bakersfield, Calif.; one sister, Billie Stinson of Norman; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at McMahans Funeral Home in Noble, with Pastor Kenneth Adams officiating. Interment will be at Noble IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today.
