Carmen Goodspeed Obituary

Norman, Oklahoma - Carmen Gene Young Goodspeed was born on her family's farm in Tipton, Oklahoma, on January 13, 1942. She passed away in Norman, Oklahoma, on July 12, 2025.

Carmen was the valedictorian of her Tipton High School graduating class in 1960. During her school years, she played basketball and was an active member of the band, performing trumpet in the marching band and French horn in concerts. She also sang and played piano for the First Baptist Church.

She went on to attend the University of Oklahoma, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Music Education in 1964. After college, Carmen began teaching music in Mangum, Oklahoma, where she married fellow music major Jerry Goodspeed, who was also raised in Mangum.

The couple made their first home in Norman, Oklahoma. Their daughter Lisa was born in 1965 while Carmen taught music and German in nearby Moore, and Jerry served as a police officer in Norman. The family later moved to Atlanta, Georgia, then to Dallas, Texas, where their son David was born in 1971. From Dallas, they relocated to Horizon City, Texas, where Jerry worked in real estate and Carmen taught school in El Paso.

Jerry passed away in El Paso in December 1979. In 1980, Carmen and her children returned to Oklahoma. She taught music in Purcell, Oklahoma, and also worked for the city as an activities organizer until Lisa graduated from Purcell High School in 1984 and enrolled at the University of Oklahoma. At that time, Carmen transitioned out of teaching, moved with David to Norman, and began the final chapter of her professional life: commercial real estate.

She found success at Harrison Levy Real Estate, where she later met and married Karl Sinclair in 2005. After retiring from sales, Carmen continued to manage some commercial property for Lamar Hunt, including holdings leased to the Oklahoma state government.

In addition to her first husband Jerry, Carmen was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Ladean Young (1999), her daughter Lisa (2010), and her second husband Karl (2018). She is survived by her son David and his wife Jenny; granddaughter Rylee; grandsons Michael, Collin, Ryan, and Braden; and a great-grandson Tritt.

She is also survived by her brother Rex Young and his wife Myroslava of Reston, Virginia, and their children Larisa and Gershom. Also Steve and Susan Stevens from Wynnewood and their children and grandchildren.
