Betty Lou Love
Loving wife, mother, grandmother, and Gigi, Betty Lou Love, 96, passed away early December 9, 2019. Betty Lou Widener was born November 17, 1923 in Ponca City, OK to Bradley and Mamie Widener as the youngest of three children. She graduated from Ponca High School in 1942. Betty was well known for her piano accompaniment to the high school chorus. She used those piano skills the rest of her life until her failing eyesight would not allow her to see the notes on the page. She enjoyed knitting, needle point, and some toll painting. She loved sewing clothes, costumes, and doll clothes for her kids and grandkids. Her favorite pastime was gardening. From vegetables to flowers she loved to get her hands in the dirt.
During the war Betty worked as the secretary for the head of No. 6 British Flight Training School in Ponca City. Later in life she worked for Dr. Herb Hengst at the University of Oklahoma, Bank Services under Steve and Tinker Owens, and the Bob Moore Corp.
Betty met James (Jim) Oliver who sang in the high school choir. They later married and had four children together. She put all of her energy in making a loving home and raising the kids. They were members of the Two-in-One Sunday School class at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church. Jim preceded her in death at the age of 62. Betty also cared for her daughter, Mary Ann Ellison who preceded her in death.
She knew Dr. Tom Love from the Sunday school class and years after they both lost their spouses began to date. They were both 79 years old when they decided to get married, and they spent the next 16 years together traveling, going to theatre plays, and enjoying each other's company.
Betty is survived by her husband Tom, her daughter Susan Sipe, son James (Jim) Oliver and wife Polly, son Charles Oliver and wife Julie, step-daughter Nancy Vanden Bos and husband Mike, step-son Tom Love and wife Janet, step-son-in-law Neil Hamilton and wife Andi, grandchildren Ben Ellison and wife Maya, Chris Sipe and wife Alx, Katie Sipe, Gina Agnew and husband Rob, Todd Oliver and wife Daniela, Eric Oliver and wife Amber, Michael Oliver and wife Kaley, Shelby Oliver and wife Alicia, Gracie Beeson and husband Jerod, JR Hamilton, Zoe Hamilton, and nine great grandchildren she adored. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Clifford Widener, and sister Hazel Yeaman.
Betty was a wonderful lady and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She kept her wonderful sense of humor until her final days. She wanted to express her gratitude to Dr. Thomas Merrill and nurse, Pam Levy as well as her former boss Robert Hamra.
