Addie Thomas 'A.T.' King Obituary

Services for Addie Thomas "A.T." King will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Westside Church of Christ with Ministers Leon Dennis and Jerry Stettheimer officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park, under the direction of Primrose Funeral Service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. today. Mr. King was born June 24, 1913, near Ryan to George and Martha King. The family moved to Cleveland County in the early 1920s and A.T. continued the rest of his life in this county. His father, George King, preceded him in death in 1924, his mother Martha King in 1987, and his youngest daughter Barbara King in 2005. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Alva King and two sisters, Annie Tucker and Marcella Knowles. He married Mary Alice King Dec. 23, 1939, and they lived for a time farming east of Norman, but moved northwest of Norman to the "10 mile flat" in late 1944. He retired from farming in 1977 with many successful years of not only farming, but also raising black Angus cattle. After leaving the farm, A.T. got his real estate license. After full retirement, he continued to enjoy gardening and lawn work. He helped Sooner Fashion Mall for 13 years with their landscape work and maintenance. He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice; daughters Glendora Dunleavy, Princeton, Texas, Marie Howard and husband Charles, DeKalb, Texas, Mary Stettheimer and husband Jerry, Rockwall, Texas; seven grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Other survivors are a sister, Eva Janko, Moore, and a brother J.B. King, Overland Park, Kan. Mr. King was a dedicated, faithful Christian, family said, involved during the years with Central, University, as an elder, Boyd and McGee (now Westside) and Alameda, as a deacon, congregations of Churches of Christ. "He was concerned for people's souls," family said. "And the Lord has a hard working farmer in Heaven helping him now."
