Vernon's Story

Text size

Vernon Dean Freeze, Sr. joyfully and peacefully entered Heaven May 7, 2017. He was born May 9, 1931 in Mishawaka IN to Helen (LaFave) and William Freeze. His life was filled with Jesus, family, sports, and music.

Vern played football at Florida State University until he joined the U.S. Navy.
His career in the Recreational Vehicle industry precipitated our family move in 1976, from IN to OK. He traveled several states as an outside salesman; in 1996 we moved to TX and he traveled nationally presenting seminars. Vern was an extraordinary salesman and teacher. He and his family sang through the years for various organizations. He recorded two CD's which are played across the country. Vern was inducted into Mishawaka High School's Hall of Fame to honor his football career; his punting record of 69 yards still stands!

Playing golf filled his early retirement years, with three documented hole-in-ones. The annual "Coho Golf Tourmanent" always was a highlight. Vern's joke-telling is legendary; he had a story for every occasion. The Monday breakfast group will attest to this! At Parkside Baptist Church in Denison TX, Vern served as a deacon, sang in the choir, worked at the ROC (recreational facility), helped with Vacation Bible School, and was involved in Sunday School and the Pacesetters. He volunteered wherever needed.

A loving family survives Vern: his wife of 60 years, Betty (Dipert) Freeze of their Sherman home; daughters Lori (David) Salmond of Denison and Kari Lyn Freeze of Pottsboro; son Dean (Linda) Freeze of Salem OR; grandchildren Erin (Jarod) Goad; Jordan Ferguson; Corey (Lauren) Freeze; Mickayla Freeze; Elandra Freeze, Corban Freeze; great-grandchildren Kylie and Peyton Freeze; sister Carol (Bill) Hoel, brother Robert (Harriett) Freeze; mother-in-law Ruby Dipert, sister-in-law Deena Dipert, brothers-in-law Tracy and Kirby (Vicky) Dipert; much-loved nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Vern chose to donate his body to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas TX. His family will celebrate his new life and honor his earthly life in private gatherings.
