Sidney "Sid"'s Story
Sidney "Sid" H. Calvert, 82, of Norman passed away Monday October 2, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born September 17, 1935 in Norman to James Sidney and Lydia Olga Strouhal Calvert. On April 18, 1957 he married Shirley Allen in Norman, OK. They just celebrated 60 years together.
Sid attended Pleasant Valley School, Norman Junior High and Norman High. He drove a bull dozer and then went into farming. He farmed alfalfa, wheat and cattle. He loved to cheer on his OU Sooners and Dallas Cowboys. The Western Channel was his favorite to watch and he could usually quote the next line. He traveled to Thailand to visit his daughter and he thoroughly enjoyed that vacation. Sid was a committee member of Cleveland County FSA (Farm Service Agency), Committee Member of the CCC (Cleveland County Conservation) agency, Oklahoma Cattleman's Association as well as the Old Iron Club (tractor club). Above all he loved spending time with his family. They will greatly miss him and all his famous sayings.
Survivors include his wife Shirley of 60 years; daughters: Shelly Manning and her husband Richard of Okmulgee, Sandy Lira and her husband Chris of Norman; grandsons: Seth Manning from Texas and Nathan Manning and his wife Stefani from Texas; granddaughter: Kynsey Lira from Norman; great-granddaughter Berkleigh Manning from Texas; brothers: Leo Calvert and his wife Gloria from Norman, Chuck Calvert and his wife Bernie from Norman and Jerry Calvert and his wife Sue from Norman; and faithful buddy: Sport.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Cleveland County 4-H Foundation, 601 E. Robinson St. Norman, OK 73071.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday October 5, 2017 at Primrose Funeral Service, Norman, OK. Funeral Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday October 6, 2017 at Primrose Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
