FLOOD, Kathryn Lyle passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 in Norman, OK. Kathryn was born February 22, 1949 in Norman to Jim and Pauline Flood. Jim was in the service and the family moved to Germany when Kathy was in the first grade at McKinley. After a tour in Maryland at NSA, Jim retired and the family returned to Norman, when Kathy was in the eighth grade, where she entered West Junior High. After graduation from high school, where she was year book editor, Kathy attended OU and became an Alpha Chi Omega. She graduated in three years, earning a Bachelors in French and a minor in Italian. She also spent a year in Paris.
Upon her return, Kathy began graduate studies in French and married. She also had discovered her new life-long companion- juvenile diabetes, which lasted longer than her 7-year marriage. Another year in France, this time in Marseille, and her love of travel, languages and the adventures they produce, would never again be denied. Upon completion of her Masters of Arts in French, Kathy began teaching in public school. Alas, love of children did not extend to love of 25 children in one room, so she sought other ways to make her living.
Beginning her grown-up life as Kathryn, in 1980 she entered OU's law school and graduated in 1983. She worked first for Legal Services/Legal Aid; then the Department of Human Services as its personnel lawyer, and finally spent her last almost 20 years clerking for appellate judges Stewart Hunter and Kenneth Buettner of the Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals. Kathryn was admitted to the Oklahoma State Bar, the Western District of Oklahoma, the Eastern District of Oklahoma and the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. She was a member of the Cleveland County Bar Association and has served on its Executive Committee.
Kathryn is survived by her brother, Jim Flood of Norman, OK; her niece, Beverly Flood and her husband, Jake Bailey of Minneapolis MN; and her nephew, Steven Flood and his wife, Jennifer and their daughter, Lilia Pauline of Austin, TX, as well as two cats, Charlotte and Abigail.
