James Lee Horton, 68, of Norman passed away in his sleep on March 5, 2017 after a long battle with MS for 14 years. He won the battle. He fought the disease like the soldier that he was.
He was born to Oliver and Genevieve (Smith) Horton on September 5, 1948 at McAlester, Ok. He moved to Norman with his family as a small child. He attended the Norman Public Schools and OSU-Okmulgee Tech. He married Holly Hopkins in 1970, the Mother of his children. On September 7, 1999 he married Mary Ann Wilmeth in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. They made their home in Norman.
James was employed with the Oklahoma Electric Co-op for 33 years. He began as a Linesman and Operations and retired from the Safety and Loss Control Dept. He entered the U.S. Marine Corp on September 29, 1967. He was deployed to Vietnam and volunteered for a 2nd Tour. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and Rifle Sharpshooter Badge. He received the Rank of Cpl. on May 1, 1969 and an Honorable Discharge on February 27, 1970.
James loved hunting and fishing, Classic Cars and most of all his family. He was preceded in death by his Parents and his Wife Mary Ann. Those who survive him include 3 Daughters: Deena McCain and husband Chris, Sherry Jenlink and husband Ryan and Lyndee Harrison, his Companion Gayle Jennings, his Brother Dale Horton and wife Jan, his Sister Sue Perry and husband Budo, Aunt: Louise Carey, 5 Grandchildren; Allyson McCain, Layah Harrison, Ethan McCain, Sydney Jenlink, Abigail Jenlink many Nieces and Nephews and other relatives and friends.

INTERMENT: Noble IOOF Cemetery with Military Honors
