Isaac's Story

COL Isaac F. Buck Bonifay, Jr. USA (Ret), USNA class of 1960, passed away peacefully at his home in Norman, Oklahoma on 25 May, 2017. He is survived by his beautiful bride and loving wife, Gail, and their two sons and cherished daughters-in-law, Brad and Karen Bonifay of Keller, Texas and Brett and Rhonda Bonifay of San Diego, California. He completely treasured and loved his grandchildren; Calyssa, Tristan, Brecken, Braden, Boston, and Cannon. He is also survived by his younger brother, Bill Bonifay of Tyler, Texas. A Celebration Service will be held at Primrose Funeral in Norman, Oklahoma on 8 June, 2017 and he will be laid to rest with full military honors at the Ft Sill Post Cemetery in Lawton, Oklahoma on 9 June, 2017. After graduation from Deland High School in Deland, Florida he attended the United States Naval Academy and graduated in 1960. He selected a commission in the Army upon graduation and completed a stellar 30 year military career as a Field Artillery Officer. He served two command tours and a number of operational assignments and foreign military advisor positions including Commander, 2nd Battalion/18th Field Artillery and Deputy Installation Commander of Ft Sill, Oklahoma. He served overseas tours in Greece, Germany, Iran and Vietnam. He retired in 1990 as the Senior Military Advisor to the Oklahoma National Guard. In retirement he loved to play golf, travel, snow skiing, attending USNA Alumni reunions, and spoiling his grandchildren. Although he went Army, he still loved his connection to the Navy and rooted for the Midshipmen during the Army-Navy games. He was the President of the Oklahoma City USNA Alumni Association Chapter for five years and served in a number of other community volunteer positions. He had an undying love and compassion for family, friends, and country and a complete zest for life. He is now with our Heavenly Father and playing golf again and agonizing over those two-foot putts.

Family will be at Primrose Funeral Service for a reception on Thursday, June 8, 2017, from 5:00 pm till 7:00 pm.

Graveside Services will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017, at the Ft. Sill Post Cemetery in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, with Chaplain Tom Amos officiating.
