Idabelle's Story

Text size

Idabelle Maxine (Brenzikofer) Boyd passed away on August 22, 2017. Idabelle was born in Burns, Kansas on October 12, 1924. She graduated from Burns High School and was proud to be a lifelong resident of Kansas. She married John (Jack) Boyd on January 12, 1944. For many years, Idabelle was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, John Allen (Jack) Boyd; infant son, James Allen; parents, Frank and Ida (Stackley) Brenzikofer; brothers, Frank, Arnold, Bill, and Leroy; sisters, Martha Shinn, Helen Barnes and Ruth Weber; son-in-law, Ron Schreiner; and daughter-in-law, Mary Boyd.

Family members left to celebrate her life include a brother Harold (Naomi) Brenzikofer; a sister Edna Bayes; children Joyce (Randy) Trease, Barbara Schreiner, Brenda (Vic Druten) Boyd, Duane Boyd, John (Beth Cramer) Boyd, Brian (Alice) Boyd; 9 grandchildren, Michael, Shane, Ryan, Jason, Chad, Allison, Ian, Anna and Emma; and 13 great grandchildren.

Idabelle had many interests and talents. She was a master seamstress, avid gardener, excellent cook and especially enjoyed baking for her family and friends.

Idabelle made most of her daughters' clothing, grew enough produce to feed the family throughout the year, was known for her beautiful flower gardens, and lucky were the friends who received an invite following the local high school football and basketball games for platters of her homemade doughnuts.

Idabelle was proud to be a homemaker and equally proud to share her cooking and sewing knowledge with others through her involvement in 4-H.

Idabelle instilled in her children a strong work ethic, honesty and to always put forth their best effort. Rare was the occasion that Idabelle missed a school function or sporting event of her children. Idabelle loved playing cards and enjoyed assembling puzzles.

For each birthday there was always a cake decorated and favorite meals prepared. Holidays were important to Idabelle. Jack-o-lanterns were carved, eggs dyed for Easter, and May Day baskets made and delivered. Of all the holidays, Christmas was the most special time in the Boyd household.

The family would like to thank Mennonite Friendship Communities for their care and support.
