HD Wheeler, age 80 of Lexington, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2017, at the Lexington Nursing Home. Harold Dwan Wheeler was born June 23, 1936 in Lexington, OK, the 8th of 11 children of Johnny Wheeler and Dora E. (Lewis) Wheeler. He was raised in Lexington and attended Lexington Schools, graduating in 1955. HD had always dreamed of being a professional bowler, but the gift of his newborn daughter changed his ambitions. He began driving a truck and worked various other jobs throughout the years. HD was a people person and loved to visit, and eventually started selling insurance. He greatly enjoyed it, and retired from Prudential Insurance in a career that spanned more than 36 years. On May 14, 1981, HD married Jenny (Bowers) Humphreys in Okla. City, and they made their home in Norman. HD loved his blended family just like his own, and the two families became one. He looked forward to family get togethers and would say the bigger...the better. HD always stayed busy doing something, even in his retirement years. He built porches and decks alongside his daughter Diana. He traveled extensively, and was a world class fisherman. He often shared stories of his many fishing adventures all over the world. HD was a man of great faith and shared his servant's heart for others. He was always looking to help someone. He was a longtime and faithful member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Norman. He served in various capacities around the church, doing whatever needed to be done. But his greatest joy was being the door greeter. HD was a wonderful husband and father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a true friend. He will be dearly missed!
