Ernest Eugene McGuirk, age 74 of Moultonborough, NH died February 12th, 2017 after a brief illness at home surrounded by what he cherished the most. His children, daughters Jodi Davis, Tanya Watson, son Scott McGuirk, son-in-law Jeff Watson, and his buddy Mr. Gibbs.
Ernie (Erndog, Big Ern) was born in Oakland, CA and grew up in Benicia CA until he joined the United States Navy in 1960. He was a submariner and served on USS Swordfish, USS Sea Dragon, and USS Lapon 661 until 1970.
In 1971 he married the love of his life Janice Carol. They moved to Oklahoma in 1974 where Ernie worked in the Oil field for nearly 30 years until he retired. After a brief retirement he went back to work for NCED postal service in Norman. After the death of his loving wife of over 40 years Ernie moved to New Hampshire to live with his daughter Tanya.
He spent the last 4 years of his life doing what he was not able to do for many years as he had devoted and sacrificed his own passions to care for his wife and children. He bought a boat and fished frequently on Lake Winnipesaukee. He enjoyed boating the most since he was fishing more than catching. He had most recently fell in love with target shooting and joined the Winnipesaukee Sportsman club which he frequented weekly for various competitions.
Ernie has been described by so many as the "greatest, kindest, gentle, strongest, hardworking, steady, constant, loving man they have ever met. He was always available to help anyone in need. Ernie lived a simple life and was very content in doing so as he was a meek and humble man.
He was most proud of his children, grandchildren, love of God and country, and mostly to have served in the United States Navy and live in a free country. He was patriotic and was proud to be American. He will be missed more than words can express by many some of those who knew him best like Kathy Molinaro, Cindy Lewis and Bobby and Lorrie Rammer.
