Elmer Curtis Blackmore, 78, of Norman passed away Friday, March 31, 2017, at his home surrounded by family.
He was born September 25, 1938, in St. Clair County, Missouri, to James E. and Grace Mildred McGinley Blackmore. He graduated from Washington High School in Fremont, California. He served his country from 1956-1960 in the United States Air Force. On June 9th, 1962 he married Lawana Torbett. Elmer worked for General Motors for 36 years until his retirement. After retirement he worked for 20 years as dealer trade driver, for Marc Heitz, Patriot Ford.
Elmer was a member of Blue Lakes Baptist Church in Norman and worked with the UBA Mission Builders, building churches throughout the United States and in Canada. He went eleven times to help with vacation bible school in Red Valley, Arizona, Navajo Reservation. As a jack of all trades he was on the building and grounds committee at his home church. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed his assistance.
Survivors include his wife of almost 55 years, Lawana; children, Roy of Norman, Susan Gee and husband Tom of Midwest City, Jane Keylon and husband Don of Santa Rosa, California, Viola Cobb and husband Kenny of Lexington, Oklahoma; four grandsons, Max, Andrew, and James Wade Patterson and Nathan Keylon; and one great-grandson, Bryton Patterson; his sister, Barbara Luiz and family of Tracy, California; sister, Violet Carol Frederick and family of Allen, Oklahoma; sister, Bonnie Blackmore and family of Blue Springs, Missouri; and brother, Les Blackmore and family of Washington DC.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant brother; his daughter Patricia Young and her family, Patricia's husband Dennis and their son D.J.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Sunday April 2, 2017, at Primrose Funeral Service, Norman. Visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Monday April 3, 2017, at Primrose. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday April 4, 2017, at Blue Lakes Baptist Church, Norman. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, with Reverend Mat McIntosh officiating.
