Dorothy's Story

Text size

Dorothy Laverne Murphy of Norman passed away on January 22, 2017, at the age of 95 years.
Dorothy was born on June 8, 1921, in Lexington, Oklahoma, to William and Julia (Watkins) Harshberger. Dorothy married Norman J. Murphy on January 28, 1940, and their union was blessed with four children: Michael, Marcus, Gary, and Suan. Dorothy was a devoted homemaker who excelled at nearly everything she did. A few of her many talents included cooking, crocheting, and shopping. She enjoyed crafting clothes for friends and family, and her handmade afghans often won blue ribbons at the state fair. Dorothy made sure her family always had a warm, home cooked meal to enjoy, complete with a cake or brownies for dessert. When she wasn't shopping for shoes to add to her extensive collection, she loved to spend time camping and traveling. Dorothy and Norman enjoyed their retirement years traveling in their 5th wheel and being involved with their grandchildren. Her kind, compassionate spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, William and Julia Harshberger; husband, Norman J. Murphy; son, Michael T. Murphy; and granddaughter, Angel Murphy.
Survivors include her sons, Marcus Norman (Janie) Murphy of Norman, Oklahoma and Gary Kendall (Paula) Murphy of The Villages, Florida; daughter, Suan (John) Carroll of Norman, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Marcus Chad (Paige) Murphy, Patrick Murphy, Michael (Amber) Murphy, Kristyn (Bradley) Boensch, Justin (Nicole) Carroll, Tyler (Kristen) Carroll, Misti Murphy, and Brandi (Patrick) Pipkin; great-grandchildren, Britni (Garrett) Boles, Braiden Pipkin, Baylor Ryker, Blair Murphy, Michael R. Murphy, Molly Murphy, Triston Murphy, Abbigail Murphy, Ryleigh Murphy, McKenan Pomeroy, Norah Carroll, Sydney Carroll, and Colton Carroll; great-great-grandchildren, Kaiden Boles and Brantley Boles; her loving niece, Julia Ann (Jerry) Guy; and many nieces, nephews, and relatives.
