Cherry's Story

Text size

Cherry was born on January 27, 1927 to C.A. and Eula Kincheloe in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Raised on Oklahoma red dirt during the Depression, she became a world citizen through grace, elegance, education, travel and service to others. She graduated from high school in Ponca City, Oklahoma and began attending Oklahoma Baptist University. However, she put her college education on hold and moved to Wichita when her father became the pastor of a Baptist church in the city. There she met Loren and they were married in 1952. Together they became foreign missionaries and lived in Costa Rica, Colombia, Iran, Scotland, the Netherlands and Portugal. They traveled throughout the world. Side by side, they started and served in churches, ministered to all, taught the Christian faith and lived it as a witness to everyone they met.
Her homes were always exquisitely decorated. She loved to entertain, and was an avid collector and expert at garage sales and antique stores. She read widely, was a published author, and was also an avid gatherer of quotes which she often used to support and prove her point of view.
In the late 1970's she returned to get her degree from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona, reveling in the Shakespeare classes she took. In her retirement she and Loren moved to Norman, Oklahoma where her family, traveling, and reading became her priorities. Together with Loren she then moved to Loveland, Colorado six years ago. Loren passed away in 2014. On September 24, 2017, she was "set free from life on earth" (St Cyprian).
She is survived by her four children, John, David, Mark, and Tracey, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
