Billy "Corky"'s Story
Billy (Corky) Farris, 78, passed away in his home Monday, March 27, 2017. He leaves behind a legacy of love and grace known well to all his family and friends. We wish to honor Corky with a Celebration of his Life on Saturday, April 8th, 2017 at Andrews Park, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Please come and share your memories.
Corky was born October 30th, 1938 in Chattanooga, Oklahoma to Ira Glenn and Geraldine Farris. He grew up in Norman, Oklahoma and graduated from Norman High School. After high school, Corky joined the Air Force and while stationed in Houma, Louisiana, he met and married the love of his life, Roberta Josephine Elizabeth (Whitney) Farris, whom he affectionately referred to as "Sam". They returned to Norman to raise their eight children.
As a licensed carpenter, Corky was superintendent over many local iconic construction projects, such as the OU Towers and the Sooner Fashion and Penn Square Malls. He loved his work, but enjoyed retirement with his new interests expanding into gardening, garage sales, horse racing, and all OU sports. He was also very passionate about spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Corky had a sincere friendliness that was welcoming and kind allowing anyone who met him to feel at ease. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
Corky is survived by his children, Randy and Naomi Farris, Deanna Ruch, Rhonda and Tim Grizzle, Brian and Debbie Farris, Christa Thompson, Douglas and Kim Farris, Dawn and Chet Riff; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Terry and Linda Farris, Jack and Linda Farris; one sister, Jolyn Page; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Corky is preceded in death by his wife, Robert Farris; one son David Farris; one brother Glenn Farris; one sister Janie Beeson and his parents Glenn and Geraldine Farris.
