Wanda Jean Maxey, 82, of Central City, died Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Merrick Medical Center in Central City. Funeral services will be Monday, October 30, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Fairview United Methodist Church with Pastor Laura Beach officiating. Committal services will be on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 1 p.m.at Resthaven Cemetery in Oklahoma City, OK.
Wanda was born on December 1, 1934 to Luther and Juanita (Hesser) Henderson in Chandler, Oklahoma. Wanda had quite an extensive education. She attended grade school Eureka in Stillwater, Oklahoma and graduated high school from Tribbey High School in Tribbey, Oklahoma in 1952. Wanda then attended school to be an LPN, then an RN at OSU. She then received her Bachelor's Degree from Central State University in Edmond, OK. Wanda was in the first ever class at OU for Nurse Practitioners. She finally received her Master's Degree from University of Oklahoma in Geriatrics.
Wanda was married to Jesse Simmons and Wendell Maxey. She has spent the last 24 wonderful years of her life with Robert Hundt. She worked for Amity Care Nursing Home in Oklahoma for over 20 years where she was Director of Nursing for 22 nursing homes. She was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church and Who's Who in America Nurses. Bob and Wanda traveled for over 15 years on the horse racing circuit racing horses they trained.
She is survived by Robert Hundt of Central City, NE; two sons- Dennis Simmons and Jeffrey Simmons from Oklahoma City, OK; one daughter -Renee and David Davis of Norman, OK; grandchildren- Tiffany Moad (Christopher) of Oklahoma City, OK; Jeremy Davis (Christine Hrubik) of Norman, OK; and Crystal Davis (James Ley) of Bethany, OK; step grandchildren- Lance (Brianna) Hundt of Gainsville, GA; Emily (Zack) Davidson of Kearney, NE; Dion (Cory) Hancock of Sterling, NE; Rhet, Trace, and Tristan Dirks of Sterling, NE; Bobby (Jane) Hundt of Lincoln, NE; Tammy Dirks of Sterling, NE; great grandchildren- Noah and Harper Hundt; Taylyn and Kaelyn Hancock; two brothers- Martin (Mary) Henderson of Elsmore, KS; Robert (Melinda) Henderson of Moran, KS; three sisters- Lula Mae Vogt of Dinuba, CA; Joice (Bill) Ashley of Norman, OK; and Sue Beaman of Santa Rosa, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Jesse Simmons and Wendell Maxey; one grandson- Jesse Dallas Simmons; one sister- Vivian Palovik.
