Text size

Velma Faye Althoff departed this world for her heavenly home on Tuesday, July 25, 2017. Born in Crystal, Oklahoma to William R. S. Mills and Mary Shoemake. Preceding her in death, her husband Douglas Althoff and son Patrick Althoff. Surviving Velma are two sisters, Marlene Campo and Shirley Toombs. Her children, a daughter, Raylene Cossey and son, Dale Althoff, daughter-in-law Olivia Althoff , future son-n-law David Elliott, 4 grandchildren Tara and her husband Grant Jordan, Alton and fiance' Erin Stutzman, Chris and Tami Althoff, and Matt Althoff. 5 great grandchildren, Asher, Gavin, Matthew, Avery, & Connor.
She attended the University of Oklahoma and received her BS in Education with a Masters in Math & Sciences. It's a beautiful thing when a career and a passion come together. Education was Velma's passion. Velma taught Algebra, Calculus, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Moore, Oklahoma City, and Del City for a total of 31 years and retired in Oklahoma to move to Austin, TX, where she taught for 16 more years before retiring. Her love of teaching was evident in the way she taught. She remained dedicated to helping students after hours as well in extra-curricular activities such as cheerleading and Student Clubs. The influence of a good teacher can never be erased and her students in both OK & TX are examples of her determination to pass her love for the sciences on. Velma will be dearly missed by her family and loved ones. She was a devoted mother and grandmother whose love and wisdom remain cherished.
The family held a private service on Saturday, July 29. Special appreciation and honor to Olivia Althoff and Rafael Rodriguez who loved our mother and took special care in her elder years.
