Rodney's Story

Rodney A. Smith of Norman was taken too soon on June 9, 2017, at the age of 48 years.
Rodney was born on April 4, 1969, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Joe and Doris (McGee) Smith. Rodney grew up in Norman, Oklahoma and graduated from Norman High School in 1987. He was a good athlete and a great competitor and used his talents to play baseball and high school football. He and his wife, Ann developed a strong friendship while attending Central Jr. High. They maintained their friendship over the years until they started dating exclusively at the end of 1999. On July 11, 2003 they were joined in marriage. Rodney was in business with his dad for many years at Sooner Stop, formerly Joe's Texaco. He loved OU sports, especially football. Rodney also loved the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Rodney was a loving husband, father, brother and son. He was loved by many and had a huge loving heart and a smile that was very contagious. When Rodney was your friend, he was your friend for life. Anybody who was friends with him on facebook knows what a huge Neal McCoy fan he was, as illustrated by his daily posting of Neal McCoy's "Pledge of Allegiance."
Rodney was preceded in death by his baby sister; grandparents, Joe and Amy Smith and Dallas and Ada McGee; and his favorite Great Aunt, Ilene.
He is survived by his wife Ann of the home; son, Garett; daughter, Kelsey; Parents , Joe and Doris of Norman; brother, Mike (Stephanie) of Norman; sister, Stacy (Jeff) of Norman; 3 nieces and 3 nephews; 3 great nieces and 1 great nephew and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, June 15, 2017, at 1:00pm at CrossPointe Church, with Rev. Mike Butler officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park .
