Events

Robert (Bobby) Lee Warren, a well-known singer and songwriter, passed away peacefully Friday morning with loving friends at his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Warren and Dorothy Grimmett Warren, along with several close musician friends. He is survived by several cousins and many wonderful friends.
Bobby retired from his many years as a bus driver with the Norman Public Schools in 2012. Born in Norman, Bobby began performing at age 4, singing "Pistal Packin' Mama." His payment for his performance was a chocolate candy bar. He is noted to this date for putting a chocolate bar on his meat and bun only hamburger. In high school he performed with a local band featuring Ronnie Martin and the Blue Notes. He also performed with the Jude 'n' Jody country band on television, a show that lasted about nine years and featured guest stars including Bob Wills, Johnny Cash, Roy Clark, Porter Wagner, Conway Twitty, Wanda Jackson, and the Wilburn Brothers. As a songwriter, he is credited with composing many songs including "it Hurts So Much To See You Go' recorded by the late Jim Reeves, "Groovy Grubworm" co-written and recorded by Harlow Wilcox, and other songs including "Motorcycle Maniac," Big Mable Rucker," and "I'll Never Let You Go." Bobby toured and performed with RCA recording artist Norman Jean, and with Charley Pride on concerts in Texas. He performed in the made-in-Oklahoma movie "The Stuff Will Kill You" starring the late Tim Holt. He also toured and performed all over Europe with "Motorcycle Maniac." He and his parents owned and operated "Carl & Bob's Music Store" on Porter, right here in Norman. Several Musicians have recorded many songs and enjoyed the "Jam" session held there.
A visitation for Bobby will be 3pm-8pm Sunday April 14th at Havenbrook Funeral Home. A luncheon will be served at 12:30 Tuesday April 16th in the family center at Havenbrook. Every time we saw Bobby, he had a big old smile on his face...always a good story that never failed to make us laugh. We still have our Motorcycle Maniac record he gave us. Thanks, Bobby, you were always a friend. We will miss seeing you.

I'm so sorry to hear that Bobby has passed. I don't have a memory of NOT KNOWING BOBBY. He and Ronnie Martin were my dad's, Ken Usry's best friend. I have many memories of the jam and practice sessions at our home. I hold those memories close to my heart! R.I.P. Bobby. You will always be remembered very fondly.
