Rebecca Jo (Becca)'s Story
Rebecca Jo Quade (Becca) was born a Sooner in Norman, Oklahoma on November 14, 1964 to Jo Beth (Hendrick) Quade and Robert Snyder Quade. She died a Sooner in Norman on March 22, 2017.
Becca lived in Pauls Valley, Norman, Lawton, Okarche, and again in Norman for the final months of her life, to be near her beloved Sooners and some special friends. Becca loved her family and many friends, (always enjoyed their visits, calls, texts, and emails). She taught us how ALL people should be respected and treated, with disability or without. She prepared many teachers, PTs and OTs, and other professionals in the proper treatment and support of people with disabilities. With support, Becca made her own decisions about life - throughout her entire life, and she wanted others to have the same opportunity. Becca always sought to teach others about cerebral palsy - she chose to continue teaching through the donation of her body to the OU Willed Body Program at the OU Health Sciences Center in OKC. Becca was an avid Sooner fan to the end - "Sooner born, Sooner bred, and when she died, she was Sooner dead."
Becca was preceded in death by her father (Robert), mother (Jo Beth); grandparents (Allen Vince and Thelma Hendrick); uncle/aunt (William Gardener & June Riley Hendrick; Jimmy Hendrick/Lillye Hendrick); uncle Warren Scott Quade; uncle Charles Swaim (Dorothy Hendrick Swaim), and Becca's brothers (Thomas Edward and Walter Scott Quade II).
Becca is survived by her brother, Bobby Quade of Kingfisher,OK; aunt Mary Quade of Edmond, OK and cousin Susie Gray (spouse Tommy, daughters Marianne & Jennifer); aunt Wilma Hendrick (Jimmy) of Athens, TX; aunt Dorothy Hendrick Swaim of El Cajon, CA; cousins Justin Earl Hendrick (spouse Cherry, sons London and Hans of Ft. Worth, TX); Barry Swaim (spouse Evelyn, daughter Amy Payton and son Ryan Swaim); Kelly Swaim (daughter Jade), and Jeffrey Swaim ( spouse Brenda and daughters Taylor Azhocar and Drew Swaim, all of El Cajon, CA; Jamie Allen Hendrick of OKC; Vince Keller Hendrick (son William) & William Randall Hendrick (son Cole and daughter Carie), all of Houston, TX; nephews Joey Quade (Norman) and Brad Quade (of Anchorage, AK), sons of Kathy (Tommy) of Norman; cousin Marcia Christoferson (spouse David, son David and daughter Ashley Susan Black (deceased) of Denver, CO.
Becca leaves behind so many special extended friends/family: Lorrie, Paul, Marie and Isaac Reynolds (Norman); Becky and Dr. Will Uranick, Rachel, Carol, Michael/Mandy/Dana, Michelle; Maria Jones, Chuck Roberts, Mike Upthegrove; Jennifer (Reynolds), John, Piper Cothran; Lee Ann Carpenter (and many other staff at Center of Family Love in Okarche), Jason Price (sister Jodie) of Okarche, Elizabeth, Betty, Babbette, and others at Grace Living, and around Oklahoma and the country. Becca was quite an advocate for others who have disabilities, and enjoyed participating (usually winning) in Special Olympics. Becca loved to be on the "go, go, go". She enjoyed eating out, losing at the casino, shopping, staying home with the Reynolds clan cooking and partying around the holidays, going for walks, and of course, OU Sooner Football. She loved animals, especially Noel, her adopted beagle. She loved giving hugs and kisses (and receiving same) from family, friends, and Noel.
We thank Dr. Merrill and all of the staff at Grace Living Center and Bridges for their wonderful care and friendship during the remaining months of Becca's life in Norman. We also thank the staff and caregivers at the Center of Family Love in Okarche where Becca lived for many years. In lieu of flowers, a donation to one of the following organizations is appreciated: The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Willed Body Program and State Anatomical Board (PO Box 26901, OKC, OK 73126), Special Olympics of Oklahoma (6835 S.
