Michael Jack "Mike" Sutherland
July 18, 1955 - July 25, 2018
Michael Jack Mike Sutherland passed away on July 25, 2018, at the age of 63 years. Born in Springfield, Missouri on July 18, 1955 and raised in Oklahoma City, Mike attended Heritage Hall High School where he played football and was a National Merit Scholar. Mike then attended the University of Oklahoma, where he graduated with a business degree, an M.B.A., and was a proud member of the Gamma Phi Chapter of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He remained lifelong friends with his fraternity brothers. Mike managed at The Mont restaurant during graduate school. He spent his professional life working in the vending and hospitality field. He was general manager of the country-western music venue, Coldwater Country, in Lubbock, Texas, and later ran Action Vending in El Paso, TX. When Mike moved back to Oklahoma he founded the Quarter House Arcade on Campus Corner in Norman. Mike loved Sooner football, country music, juke boxes, pinball machines, West Texas, horse racing, grilling steaks, trips to South Padre Island, and his first car an AAR Cuda. He cherished spending time with family and all of his friends (and dogs) he met along the way. Mike was recently recognized as a 50-year member at St. Lukes United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. He was full of knowledge and endlessly polite. His booming voice and infectious laugh while telling stories is unforgettable by anyone who knew him. Mike is preceded in death by his father, William Con Sutherland, mother, Edith Imogene Calvery, step-father, Kirtes G. Calvery, and brother-in-law John L. Krattiger. He is survived by his sister, Lou Ann Krattiger, nephew Jake Krattiger and his wife Lane, nephew Robbie Krattiger, niece Maggie Dowdy and her husband Colt, and his great-nephews Everett, Cooper, and Roy, all of whom he was incredibly proud. He is also survived by his cousins Judy Lightner, Tammy Lightner-Quinn, and Tim Lightner of Missouri, with whom he talked for hours about auto auctions, as well as many other cousins and friends. A Celebration of Mikes life will be held at John Ireland and Son Funeral Home in Moore, Oklahoma on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest in Mountain Grove, Missouri.
