Marie Athalea Littlefield Strickland

A Celebration of Life to honor Marie Athalea "Lee" Littlefield Strickland will be held on Saturday, May 18th, 2019 at 10 a.m. First Baptist Church in Norman's South Halleck Hall. The family hopes to hear from friends, former students, and collegues from her years as a Home Economics teacher at Central Junior High and Whittier Middle School, her time as a realtor, or her volunteering at the Christmas Store in Norman.
Lee was born on December 16th, 1920 in Fletcher, Oklahoma to Elmo and Annabelle Littlefield. On April 4th, 1942 she married William Strickland, and spent a happy life with him until he passed away 4 months before their 70th anniversary in 2011.
In her 98 years and 10 days of life, Lee was never one to be held back; from earning a BS in Education, receiving the Teacher of the Year award in 1975, to hiking to the highpoint in over 30 states, most of them AFTER breaking a hip at the age of 73, she strove to be successful in everything she did. She and Bill were very active in many associations, including the Highpointers Club that inspired some of their travel.
She is survived by her youngest sister, Ann Coleman, two children, James Strickland and Susan Kathleen Milner; four grandchildren, Kevin Milner, Athalea Bradley, Kellie Kirkpatrick, and Hillary Budreau; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, older brother Lloyd Littlefield and sister Lurland Raibourn; Bill Strickland, beloved husband of 70 years; and Jean Trousdale, best friend of over 30 years.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Christmas Store, PO Box 256, Norman, OK 73070.
