Events

Leonard Harper passed away peacefully on December 11, 2018, at the age of 90, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is survived by daughters Terese Hall and Karen Reynolds; grandchildren Amanda Huggins, Brian Clinton, Sarah Johnson, and David Hall; and great-grandchildren Kyle, Aaron, Elyse, Ezra, and Cadence. He was predeceased by his wife Joan in 2017. Leonard was born in St. Johns, Michigan, the youngest of five children. He joined the Army in 1946 and served in Germany during the Occupation after World War II. Upon returning to the U.S. Leonard took advantage of the G.I. Bill to obtain a college degree from Central Michigan University. He married Joan Mae Bullard in 1951, and they were sweethearts until her death in 2017. They loved to play bridge, fish, and traveled all over the country. Leonard was the human resources director at the University of Oklahoma, and he retired from OU as Director Emeritus of Personnel Services. He also worked for several years in human resources at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, and as a human resources consultant for several organizations after his retirement. Leonard was active in the national College and University Personnel Association, served as its President, and received a number of honors from CUPA, including its highest service award. His other professional accomplishments and honors are too numerous to mention. As a member of the Episcopal Church, Leonard served as a member of the vestry, layreader, and youth leader in several parishes. He also found great satisfaction after his retirement in volunteering at Norman Regional Hospital, where he became President of the auxiliary and led a successful fund-raising drive. Leonard was always energetic and optimistic, and he believed passionately in the importance of making a difference in the world. He loved people, loved life, loved a spirited debate, and was always ready for some fun. He was deeply devoted to his family and made a lasting impact on his grandchildren. He will be sorely missed.
