Joseph Luis Diaz


Joseph Luis Diaz, 89, of Norman passed away January 25, 2019 from complications associated with exposure to agent orange. He was born September 14, 1929 in New York, New York to Jose and Maria Diaz.
Joe was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved his family, his church, and traveling the world. Joe served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1971 when he retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. He was awarded the Good Conduct Award, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service and Air Force Commendation. During his time served in the Air Force, Joe served in Florida, Occupation Germany, France, United States, Spain, Arizona and Vietnam. After retiring from the Air Force, he joined the Navy Exchange as a civilian for 20 years and again was assigned to Italy, Philippines, Hawaii and the United States.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Phyllis Diaz; daughters: Maria Diaz, Peggy Diaz, Connie Diaz and husband, Phil Warner, and Teri Diaz; step children: Cheryl Blake and husband, Don, Teal Lang and husband, Bill, and Mark Carroll and wife, Jill, 11 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Miguel Perez.
A memorial service will be held 1:30, Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at First Christian Church in Norman.
