John Keith Smart passed away tragically on August 17, 2017 at the age of 65. John was born on May 28, 1952 in Wewoka, Oklahoma to Betty Jo Nelms and Jearl Smart. He graduated from Wewoka High School in 1970. John was an avid member of Boy Scout Troop #426.

John received a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma in 1974, and a Masters of Public Health Administration in 1976 from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. While at OU, he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.

He was passionate about his work in the family long term care business, where he employed and helped so many people.

John was a kind, loving and caring person that touched literally thousands of lives.  He was a deeply loved friend. He was always interested in knowing about you, and how you were doing. He was a generous person and philanthropist that quietly helped many, many people. He provided personal educational scholarships in an effort to advance opportunities in people's lives because he cared. John was truly interested in bettering the lives of his fellow Seminole County citizens.

He greatly enjoyed the outdoors and the land. He often commented that he was only the temporary steward of his properties. He loved driving in the pastures to be with nature, the wildlife and view his cattle operation. John was an active conservationist of these ranches. John was a man's man. He was humble, he was loving, and he was a character.

John is survived by his dear wife Teresa, sisters and husbands, Jeary and Mike Seikel, OKC, Julie and Bryan Tibbs, OKC, his brother and wife, Jim and Vicky Smart, Shawnee, brother-in-law and wife Gary and Tammie Morgan, Drumright, brother-in-law and wife Clint and Katie Morgan, Hitchita and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a host of family and friends around the world that deeply loved him.

Teresa and John loved their homes and views on Lake Tranquility Ranch in Wewoka and in Ojai, California. They traveled the world together and enjoyed their lives and their 35-year marriage.

We all will miss John Smart.
