Joe's Story

Joe Neal Schat was born to Roy and Dewey (Hopkins) Schat on September 6, 1932 in the Franklin Community, northeast of Norman, Ok. He was the 9th of eleven children. He attended school at Blackburn, Pleasant Hill (now Robin Hill) and Norman High School.
He married Geraldine Faye Mitchusson on April 18, 1953. To this Union 2 Sons were born, Danny and Terry. Joe was employed with the Oklahoma Natural Gas Co. for 36 years.
Joe was eleven when his Father died. Being from a large family he knew the value of hard work. He loved to hunt, fish, trap and play bluegrass Music. He has been in several Bluegrass Bands. He played in several states and Silver Dollar City. He was a founding member of "The Bluegrass Okies" of Noble, Ok. He played mandolin and guitar and sang high tenor. Joe was of the Baptist Faith and attended the Immanual Baptist Church.
Joe was preceded in death by his Parents, 7 Brothers; Roy Jr., Glen, Charles, Jack, Don, Gene and Paul. 3 Sisters; Juanita Bishop, June Schat and Mary Nell Cornett. Left to survive him include his wife Faye, 2 Sons; Danny Schat and wife Debbie and Terry and wife Patti. 5 Grandchildren; Russell (Monica) Schat, Tenille (Derek) Mehl, Tiffany (Anthony) Palazzolo, Emily (Albert) Zoll and Chris (Jessie) Schat, 2 Great Grandchildren; Joseph Schat and Harper Zoll, 4 Step Grandchildren and their families; Aaron, Amy, Jennifer and Becky.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 12:00pm Saturday, February 17th, McMahans Funeral Chapel
VISITATION HOURS: Friday, February 16th 4:00pm-7:00pm
INTERMENT: Blackburn Cemetery
