Joan's Story

Text size

Joan Elizabeth Harper Kammerlocher age 64 left us unexpectedly on Monday, March 6, 2017 in Norman, just 3 weeks after her mother passed. She was born November 28, 1952 in Escambia County, Florida to Donald E. Harper and Bobba Lynn Harper. In Joan's early life, she moved quite often, finishing her schooling in Norman at Norman High and OU. Joan was a kind, brilliant woman who did her best to brighten others' lives. In 1997, she returned to Norman to help raise her granddaughter. She often substituted with Norman Public Schools. She found her life calling teaching Tai Chi. Joan had a love of nature, philosophy, science, and the arts. Her thirst for knowledge was unquenchable, and she always knew there was more to learn. She had a fairly successful tumblr blog documenting her struggles with Meniere's disease as well as her various interests and quirky sense of humor. Joan always found humor in everything. She will be dearly missed.
Joan is survived by daughter Stephanie Hayes, granddaughter Kara Kammerlocher, sisters Lynn Harper and Cindy Harper(Steve Karas), brother Brent Harper(Sue Vaughn), godmother Betty Jackson, niece Andi Peterson(Corey), nephew Bart Harper(Amber), great nieces and nephew, and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, family friend Ken Gastgeb, and her beloved dog Akane.
Joan wanted no services. In lieu of flowers, you can donate to you favorite charity or pick up trash as you walk down the street.
