Jerry's Story

Text size

Jerry Glenn Steely was born on July 16, 1939 in Duncan, Oklahoma to Roy and Mildred Steely. He passed away Thursday, November 9, 2017, surrounded by love. Jerry grew up in Duncan, Oklahoma and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a graduate and lifetime supporter of The University of Oklahoma. Over the years, he enjoyed his time and work at Kerr McGee and Halliburton, and most recently as the Human Resource Director for the City of Del City until his retirement. One of his greatest joys was sharing his knowledge and experiences with students around the world as an adjunct professor for the Price Business School at The University of Oklahoma.

Jerry married the love of his life, Angela Baker Steely, on December 9, 1994. Together they lived life to the fullest, traveling the world and enjoying trips with their children and grandchildren. Jerry had a knack for gardening and he loved working in the yard. He was a devoted husband, proud father, and a doting grandfather.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mildred Steely and his brother Don Steely. He is survived by: his wife of 23 years, Angela Baker Steely of Norman, Oklahoma; his three daughters: Deborah Porter and her husband Larry and their daughter Rachel of Dallas, Texas, Trish Boyd and her husband Kemper and their daughter Miller of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Karen Wantland and her husband Dennis and their children Trevor, Sidney, and Riley of Charlotte, North Carolina; his step-son Jeff Cooper and his wife Lynn and their children Kaleigh and Carson of Edmond, Oklahoma; his step-daughter Leigh Wheatley and her husband Russell and their children Alexandra and Molly of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and life-long friends and co-workers.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the many doctors, nurses, therapists, and caregivers who helped to give Jerry a full life, specifically the staff of Brookhaven Extensive Care of Norman, Autumn Leaves Memory Care of Oklahoma City, and Physicians Choice Hospice Care. Special thanks to Dr. Paul Plusquellec and staff of Norman and Dr. Douglas Beall and staff of Edmond.

A memorial service will be held under the direction of Tribute Memorial Care on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 10:00 am at The First Christian Church of Norman (220 South Webster Avenue), with Reverend David Spain officiating.
