James Richard Robinson

James Richard Robinson passed away at his home in Green Valley, Arizona on Wednesday 06 February 2019 at the age of 75. His extended family and early colleagues knew him as Richard; others that crossed his path a bit later in life knew him as Jim or JR; and lastly, to a few he was simply known as "Pop". He was truly an "Okie from Muskogee" as his hometown of Tahlequah, Oklahoma didn't have a hospital at that time; he was also the first of his family to be born in a hospital instead of the family home.

Richard spent most of his time growing up in Norman, OK (Norman High class of '61) and he later attended the University of Oklahoma - which he jokingly described as seven of the best years of his early life (OU class of '68). He parlayed a Civil Engineering degree into working with the Federal Department of Transportation in a number of states before settling down in Springfield, VA. Known as Jim or JR at this point, he worked in DC for DOT and then in Richmond for Virginia DOT before retiring and moving to Green Valley.

He also served in the Army National Guard for 4 years, coached youth sports, and was fond of mentoring early career hires. Jim enjoyed living in Arizona where he developed a taste for Southwestern art and could indulge his love of green chiles. He picked up a passion for golf late in life, but enjoyed a good scotch anytime.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents James and Ruth Robinson, and his son Kyle. He is survived by his wife Sandra Robinson; sons / grandchildren Ian & Emma Jones of St. Petersburg, FL and Michael (with spouse Jodi), Zachary & Rachael Robinson of Middletown, MD; his brother David (with spouse Judy) Robinson from Leesburg, VA, and niece Hadley Sorensen (with spouse Eric and 3 kids) from Ashburn, VA. Numerous cousins hail from Oklahoma, Texas, and spread throughout the rest of the US.

There will not be a service at this time per Jim's wishes. The family kindly requests donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital in lieu of flowers.
