Helen Velma Higbee

Helen Velma Straub Higbee of Columbus, Nebraska formerly of Noble, Oklahoma passed away May 21, 2019. She was born November 27, 1918 to Christian John and Ella Elizabeth (Weber) Straub in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. She attended Prospect View Elementary and Lone Wolf High School. She was the organist at the Lone Wolf Lutheran Church before moving to Norman in 1945. She worked as a hairdresser in several salons and in 1952 opened her own salon. She was one of the organists at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Norman for a number of years. She operated a salon at the Four Seasons Nursing Center in Norman for 12 years. She married Verl Higbee on March 17, 1960. She enjoyed bowling, playing the organ and piano, gardening, playing cards, and being involved with her family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Elmer Straub, sister Laura Wald, brother Arnold Straub and his wife Gracie, and nephew Max Straub. She is survived and will be deeply missed by her daughters Delores Russell and Sharrie Ward and her husband Bob; her grandsons Mike Russell and his wife Madonna, John Russell and his wife Jamie, Gregg Ward and his wife Susan, Mark Ward and his wife Carrie, her granddaughters Pam Ward Heusman and her husband Mark, D'Anne Russell Poole and her husband Chris, her great-grandchildren Megan and Madison Russell, McKenzie Gregory and her husband Clay, Brooks, Steel, and Stone Russell, Erika, Brittiny, and Donovan Heusman, Courtney, Paige, Drew, Preslee, Luke, Parker, and Grace Ward, and Taylor Ross; great-great grandchildren Jax and Jet Anderson, and Poppy Russell, six nephews, four nieces and numerous cousins in the Straub and Weber families. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday May 24, 2019 at McMahan Funeral Chapel in Noble. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday May 25, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Porter & Alameda in Norman, with burial at the Lexington Cemetery. Directed by McMahans Funeral Home of Noble, OK.
