Grover's Story

A memorial service for Grover Cleveland Peters Jr., 86, of Boerne and previously Killeen, TX will be held Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell, OK. Interment will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell following the funeral.
Grover C. Peters Jr. died August 17, 2017 in San Antonio, TX.
He was an honorable, kind, loving father and friend who will be tremendously missed.
He was the youngest son of Grover Cleveland (Cleve) Peters, Sr. and Mary Alice (Mowdy) Peters. He was born January 3, 1931 on the family farm near Dibble, OK. He graduated from Dibble High School in 1949 and attended Oklahoma State University from 1949-1952. He worked for Brown Oil Tool Company in Oklahoma City prior to entering the Army. His military service included tours in Korea and Vietnam. He retired from the Army at Fort Hood, TX in 1974 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He earned the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Meritorious Service Medal with
1 Oak Leaf Cluster; Armed Forces Reserve Medal; Expert Infantryman Badge; and Bonze Star Medal.
After retiring from the Army, he became a real estate broker and building contractor before becoming a Federal Civil Service GS-11 and supervisor of the Fort Hood, TX Youth Recreation program.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and of the Exchange Club while living in Killeen.
Grover, Jr., married Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Hardin in 1952 in Perry, OK and they had four children. Elizabeth died in 1965 in Purcell, OK. He raised his children himself until 1978 when he married Margaret Louise (Tietz) Quintana in
Killeen, TX.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth; his parents; two sons, James Steven Peters and Alan Lynn Peters; his brother, Roy Peters and wife Christine; two sisters, Madeline Mayfield and husband Britt and Iliene Duncan and husband Wes; and niece, Barbara Peters.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; son Grover Cleveland Peters, III and wife Kristine Kremkau Peters of Spokane WA; daughter, Mari Suzanne (Sue) Peters O'Brien and husband Shawn Patrick O'Brien of Boerne, TX; granddaughter Delaney Suzanne O'Brien and husband Adam Brian Coleman of Los Angeles, CA; granddaughter Elizabeth Peters Page and husband Larry Strey and great granddaughters Mabry and Ella of San Antonio, TX; granddaughter Teresia Kennedy and great granddaughter Zoe of Arlington, TX; stepdaughter Paula Roher and husband Kay of Oklahoma City; nephew Roy Peters, Jr. of Tulsa, OK; niece Carolyn (Jeanie) Sisson and husband Ken of Oklahoma City; niece Marilyn Ehlers and husband Richard of Oklahoma City; nephew Britt Max Mayfield and wife Linda of Miami Florida; nephew Dale Duncan and wife Judy of Villa Park, CA; lifelong friend, Bud Bayless and wife Betty of Mesa, AZ; stepdaughter Judy Quintana Logan and husband Shane and granddaughter Lauren of Buda, TX; stepdaughter Susan Quintana and granddaughter Hunter of Brownwood, TX; stepson Robert Quintana and wife Carron and granddaughter Erin of Dallas, TX; stepson Michael Quintana and wife Adele and grandson Clint and granddaughter Lindsey of Fort Worth, TX along with many other beloved family and friends.
No visitation is scheduled.
