Dr. Linda Ruth York

October 02, 1940 - August 04, 2018

Dr. Linda Ruth York, "Lucky Linda" of Lexington, OK died Aug 4, 2018. Linda was born October 2, 1940 in Ada, Oklahoma to Kathleen Caldwell York and Thomas Steven York. Linda grew up in the homestead house with her grandmother Christine York, family, friends, ranch hands and horses. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, grandmother, stepmother Viola York, niece Cameron York, and the father of her children Anthony Joeseph Maffucci. She is survived by her two children Anthony Canio Maffucci and Caren Ruth Maffucci, cousins Jerry York (Karen), Johnnie Ray York (Sherland), Jeannie Dover (Ronnie), Elaine York, Roger York (Miracle), Robbie York, former spouse and good friend Norman Steenholdt, her treasured nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends.
Linda was a life-time learner. Linda graduated from the University of Oklahoma earning her Bachelor's in Education, Master's in Special Education and PhD in Clinical Psychology. Linda was a teacher and mentor to many. She taught special education in Texas, worked as a school counselor in Noble, and maintained a private practice as a clinical psychologist.
Linda served many times in KAIROS, a Christian Prison Ministry, for incarcerated men and women. She taught and mentored the men at Joseph Harp Correctional Facility for many years. Linda offered support for the families of all those incarcerated.  Linda had a passion for social justice issues and was a great advocate for peace and justice.
Her friends range from across the USA, to Australia, and China where she worked as a teacher of English and provided books and supplies for a village school. She worked as a Volunteer for Veterans program.  Dr. York is known by many as a comforter and counselor.   She never met a stranger and she will be sorely missed by all.  Linda lived her last years in the house she built on the top of the hill on the family land. From her porch the sunsets were a magnificent glory which were as vivid and wonderful as Linda and her fiery red hair. "Whenever you want to see me, always look at the sunset; I will be there."
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to Little Light Christian School, P.O. Box 720323, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, (405) 475-0585. A memorial service will be held with the time and place to be announced which will be officiated by Pastor Perla Goody.

I worked with LINDA AT NOBLE JR. HIGH IN THE 80’S. Her office was across the hall from my Special Needs class. She would take us out to the ranch to ride horse, once to a horse breeding ranch. I moved on in the 90’s but we stayed friends all these years. She was a mentor and we wow both Dr. Teska’s students at OU. I will miss Linda and think of her often.

Linda was a dear person. She was a mentor to my Granddaughter, Caitlyn who loved and appreciated her. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and the many friends who loved her.

Was an honor to meet this wonderful person through a mutual friend.... only to discover that the two of us had many mutual friends. Linda will always be remembered and I know she's traveled to that beautiful glory land in the sky - certain she was a blessing to many and that her crown is full!

One of the finest persons I've ever known. Her passion for justice, fairness and forgiveness were replicated from the Bible and the teachings of Jesus.

I will miss my good friend and neighbor in Lexington, Oklahoma.
