Dorothy Ripper Hill

Dorothy Mae Ripper (Dore') Hill, 87, of Norman Oklahoma, passed from this life on April 6, 2019.

The first-born child of Clarence and Emma Ripper, Dore' was born January 1, 1932 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She attended Michigan State University where she earned a BA degree in Art History and Commercial Art and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority and the synchronized swim team. It was at Michigan State that she met her husband, George Kay Hill, whom she married on October 25, 1955.

Three months after they were married, Kay was drafted and stationed in Anchorage, Alaska where Dore' worked at the local TV station as a weather girl. Soon after, they began their family and had two children: Jana Lynn and Gregory Sterling.

Fashion and art were a big part of Dore's life starting at a very young age. She instilled the same love of art and other passions in her children as they shared in many art projects, swimming, golf and travel.

Through the years, Dore's art received many awards and has been displayed throughout the country. In 1983, Dore' and Kay moved to Norman where she became involved in many local clubs and social groups. Dore' dearly loved her family and friends. Swimming in the backyard pool where Gram served smoothies to the grandkids was a special memory for the family.

Dore' is preceded in death by her husband, G. Kay Hill. She is survived by her brother, Jack Ripper and wife, Cathy, her daughter Jana Moran and husband, Russ, her son Greg Hill and wife, Carolyn, and their children, Ryan, Katie, Taylor and wife Desi, and their son Gideon.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 13th at 11:00 at Wildwood Community Church, 1501 24th Ave NE, Norman, OK.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association at 225 N. Michigan Ave, Floor 17, Chicago, IL, 60601 or Firehouse Art Center in Norman.

Jana, we were so sorry to hear about your Mom, but do realize that she is truly at peace now. We feel so fortunate to have spent some time with her, but best of all, she gave us YOU. Sending our thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Hope to see you both at a happier occasion.

Dore' was such a special person. She was so gifted and talented and loved sharing beauty with everyone. When we moved to Norman she lived across the street and was so welcoming. She will be deeply missed. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all.
