"Chip" Phillip Baer

November 23, 1965 - February 03, 2019

Chip Phillip Baer Charles Phillip Baer was born in WIchita, KS on November 23, 1965. After a lengthy illness, he departed this earth on February 3rd at the young age of 53. "Chip", as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was the son of Ted and Teresa Baer (longtime Norman residents) and brother of Chris.
Chip graduated from Norman High School where he loved reading Shakespeare as much as he loved winning a wrestling match. He excelled at wrestling and had the trophies to prove it.
Chip's first marriage resulted in the birth of two girls, Beth and Natalie; his second marriage bore a third girl - Brooklyn. His parents often refer to Chip's marriage to Deborah and the girls as "Chip's crowning achievements".
During Operation Desert Storm, Chip served his country in the USAF as a radar technician in IRAQ. It was thought that his tour of duty there contributed to his fragile mental state.
Through much of his life, Chip struggled with mental illness. Even though at times it was difficult, his parents continued to be his support system, never abandoning him. Aside from all the issues, Chip was a generous and kind spirit - and should be remembered for that. Often he would share cigarettes, groceries and money with neighbors less fortunate than himself. He literally would give the "shirt off his back" to anyone who needed it.
A military service and a celebration of Chip's life will be held in April with interment of ashes at the Leavenworth National Cemetery.

My deepest sympathies to the Baer family. Chip was a great wrestler on the mat for NHS, he was an even better man off the mat. RIP old friend.

My condolences to the Baer Family. I lived down the street from Chris and Chip on Charlotte Court. Lots of good memories playing with them and all the other kids on the street. My thoughts are with Ted, Teresa and Chris.

Chip was one of the hardest working wrestlers I knew. Great guy! It was an honor to be his friend! I remember some great high school matches between him and the legendary John Smith.
