Anita's Story

Text size

Anita was the only child born to Plase Porter and Ruby Clyde (Chester) Goode on January 25, 1939 at Shawnee, Ok. At a young age she moved with her family to the Moore, Ok. area. She attended the Moore School System and graduated with the Class of 1957. While in High School she was a member of the Lionette Pep Club, the Spanish Club, she was a Cheerleader and a member of the Annual Staff.
Anita always had an interest in horses and rode the horses her Dad bought and traded. In 1960 she and Mr. Jerry Kilgore were United in Marriage. While Jerry owned and operated the Kilgore Machine and Tool Co. in Ok. City Anita took an interest in Barrel Racing. Barrel Racing became her and Jerry's life. Jerry bought her a horse named Ford. It was then that she and Ford became nationally recognized as one of the top 15 barrel racers. In 1970 Anita and Ford finished 8th in the world. They competed nation wide; Houston at the Astrodome, Denver, Colorado and many more. The following year after the National Finals Competition her horse Ford passed away unexpectedly. Anita never raced professionally again.
Anita and Jerry moved from Moore to Lexington and built a home where she resided until her death. For 34 years Anita was employed as a bookkeeper for Custer and Custer Livestock Comm Co. at the Oklahoma City Stockyards before her retirement. Anita was a wonderful Mother and loved spending time with her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
Her Mother and Father preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving Husband Jerry of the home, her Daughter Jamie Kilgore of Oklahoma City, her Son Kyle Kilgore and wife Paula of Lexington, Grandchildren; Jason Felton and wife Krystal, Jena Gillum and husband Josh, Justin Kilgore and Shawn Kilgore, Great Grandchildren; Easton Felton, Charlotte Gillum, Cori Lee Gillum, and numerous friends, customers and co-workers at the Oklahoma National Stockyards in Oklahoma City. She will be sorely missed by all.
