Allena's Story

Allena Jewell Childress , 82, of Norman, Oklahoma passed on Friday, February 24, 2017 surrounded by her family and friends. She was born January 9, 1935 to Mahlon and Opal (Waggoner) McCaslin in Clinton, Oklahoma. Jewell spent her childhood years in California, returned to Oklahoma and graduated from Norman High School. She married her husband of 58 years, Earl Edgar Childress in 1952. They built their home in Norman where they raised three children. She resided in the family home until her death. Jewell retired from Griffin Memorial Hospital after 22 years in the records department. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, fishing, hunting and travel. She was a past member of the Moose Lodge, Silver Spurs Square Dancing Club and the Sooner Bowling League. Her favorite past-times included the holidays with family and friends and attending the sporting events of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mahlon and Opal McCaslin; her beloved husband Earl Edgar Childress; her brother, Ben McCaslin; two sisters, Mahla Wilson and Billie Mae Shaw; and her beloved son, Ronald Edgar Childress.
She is survived by two daughters, Vondale Salem and husband Emmet of Noble, Cathy Brown and husband Gary of Noble; six grandchildren, Jeff Salem and wife Stacy, Chandra (Brown) Stewart, Brandy Miller and husband Derrik, Josh Brown, Ashley Childress and Nichole Childress; two great grandchildren, Zayden Miller and Zayne Miller.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, February 27 from 12-8 p.m. at Primrose Funeral Service with family present to greet from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 28 at 1:00 p.m . Followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Park in Norman.
